"Engineering the Space" 🏟️🎧 Spatial Audio

July 27, 2026 TiMax Spatial Studios · Tileyard London

Overview

Session #05 of Audio Buffer London — spatial audio from both the macro and micro perspectives, with presentations representing the cutting edge of the industry.

Spatial audio is fundamentally redefining the rules of music production, live performance, and personal listening. As this technology evolves, audio developers and technologists face a new set of complex challenges.

How do we seamlessly control and scale multi-channel 3D sound in physical spaces? And conversely, how do we trick the human brain into experiencing true three-dimensional aural reality through standard headphones?

TiMax & SpatAI — Ecosystems for Physical Space. We dove into the macro level of 3D audio with a look at TiMax, the industry-leading spatial hardware and software solutions designed for immersive live environments, and explored how these robust spatialization ecosystems actually operate under the hood. The session also demonstrated the integration of sonicPlanet SpatAI, showcasing how artificial intelligence and generative processes are being used to control complex spatial audio movements in real time.

Innit Audio — Recreating Aural Reality. Next, we tackled the micro level. Although we may have grown accustomed to them, today's earbuds and headphones do not reproduce sound as we truly hear it in the real world. This is largely because current HRTF-based programming does not account for how the human body affects every sound path before it reaches our ears. Innit Audio explained how they have addressed this critical limitation, and demonstrated their novel software solution.

To fully realise this sonic experience, Audio Buffer #05 was kindly hosted at the TiMax Spatial Studios within the Tileyard London facilities.
